Septic Cost
There is not one number for the cost of a septic system. We've seen residential systems go in for over $100K (not by us) and for less than $5K (that contractor is out of business now).
The true cost of a septic for your home should really be based on what you and your site can accept.
Before you assume the cheapest price is the best price, consider this:
- Do you want a high maintenance system requiring repairs every 1-2 years?
- Do you want a high energy consumption system that runs 24 hours a day?
- Do you have an extra $100 per month to pay for this "cheaper" system?
- Do you want to modify your lifestyle to not upset the septic system?
- Do you want a system that may make your home difficult to sell?
Make sure that whoever you get to provide you a septic system cares enough to talk to you about what you want, not just what's cheap, or what they sell.
Consider this advice, offered over 100 years ago:
"A thing is worth what it can do for you, not what you choose to pay for it."
- John Ruskin, 1819-1900
"It is unwise to pay too much. But it is worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money, that is all.
When you pay too little you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.
The common law of business balances prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. It can't be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run. And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better.
There is hardly anything in the world that someone can't make a little worse and sell a little cheaper and people who consider price alone are this man's lawful prey."
- John Ruskin (attributed) 1819-1900
Why take chances? When you want it done right, you want Snowden On-Site.
